Leichhardt — Sydney's Italian Quarter
A short guide to the neighbourhood we've called home since 1977.
A Slice of Italy in Sydney's Inner West
Walk down Norton Street and Marion Street and you'll understand why Leichhardt is known as Sydney's Italian quarter. From the 1950s, generations of Italian families settled in this Inner West suburb, opening trattorie, gelaterie, delicatessens and pasticcerie that still shape the neighbourhood today. La Botte D'Oro opened its doors here in 1977, and we've watched the suburb grow into one of Sydney's most beloved dining destinations — a place where Italian heritage and modern Sydney life meet over a bowl of pasta.
Leichhardt sits roughly 7 km west of the Sydney CBD, in the Inner West Council area. The neighbourhood blends Federation-era terraces, modern apartment buildings and the leafy streets that frame Marion Street. Our restaurant is on the quieter end of the Italian precinct — a few minutes' walk from Norton Plaza, the Italian Forum and the legendary espresso bars that have made Leichhardt synonymous with great Italian coffee in Sydney.

What's Nearby in Leichhardt
Make a full evening of it. Before or after dinner with us, the Leichhardt neighbourhood is a small world to explore: the Italian Forum piazza, independent boutiques along Norton Street, classic pasticcerie for a takeaway cannolo, and the historic Palace Norton Street cinema for a film. On weekends, Marion and Norton become a relaxed Sydney version of an Italian passeggiata — slow walks, ice cream cones, families catching up in cafés. It's the kind of evening La Botte D'Oro was made for.
